This is one of a dozen dresses from a single owner collection of beautiful 1930s dresses and I am very pleased to have this small capsule for you. Her collection was lovingly sourced over decades and she has decided that it is time let them back out into the world for others to enjoy. Outstanding designs from this era are increasingly hard to find. Her collection represents some of the best of the era that I have seen in a very long time. Most are in excellent condition and the few included in the capsule that do have some flaws are such outstanding designs that I feel there is still room for someone to love them and wear them as they are, or perhaps to put in the additional work to repair them. This is just a tiny sampling of her overall collection and I hope to have another series of these capsules in the future. Enjoy this first drop.
This beautiful dress is a joy to see. It is made entirely of a black silk velvet that is light and has incredible movement and softness. The style of the dress is incredibly simple but stunning once on. To wear it you simply slip into it and then hook it inside the waist and snap in into place on the outer waist. It overlaps enough that it feels secure to wear but it still gives you a mile of leg that shows when you walk or sit and a pretty plunge at the front. This one has its original belt that helps to hold it in place. The belt alone is incredible. It is made of a black silk velvet that has stiffened inserts around the back to hold the shape. The buckle is a bronze coloured metal and onto the buckle are red, blue and white beads with touches of gold paint for a splash of colour on the black. The sleeves are stunning. They're gathered all along their outer edges and inside they are lined in a pale blush silk satin. There's also a partial lining of the same silk satin around the collar and these give you just a glimpse of this added color when you move. The dress is completely bias cut and drapes over the bust, skims over your hips and falls to the floor in a beautiful expanse of silk velvet. The skirt is cut longer in the back than the front and there is slit that runs up one side. It is simply a beautiful dress. Excellent condition with a minor note below.
Unlined and cut on the bias. It's long to wear and hooks into place as described above. I see a repair with invisible tape near the edge of the slit and there are some small areas of thinning along the hem and teeny areas that you can only see when you hold it to the light. This is common with silk velvets of this age and the fabric is strong and sturdy. There is so much fabric in the dress that you would never notice these once on. It otherwise looks to have been worn very little. The waist could be adjusted by moving the snaps and hook.
